A placebo-controlled study of 98 dyslipidemic patients found significant reductions in total cholesterol, triglycerides, and LDL over 12 weeks, and a separate 126-participant trial in newly diagnosed type 2 diabetics found a standardized amla extract reduced fasting blood sugar by 21.8% — outperforming the comparison group taking metformin.

The honest context: most of the strongest trials use specific standardized, patented extracts rather than whole amla fruit, and researchers note that amla's safety alongside diabetes medications "has not been adequately studied," raising a real hypoglycemia risk worth knowing.
